The discussion will feature:
— Robert Sampson, moderator
— Eileen McMahon, author of the article “250 Years Fighting for Women’s Rights in Illinois”
— Rosemary Feuer, author of the article “Coal Miners Fight for Democracy”
Robert Sampson is the editor of the Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society. McMahon and Feuer wrote essays for the journal’s America 250 Project.
As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the ratification of the Declaration of Independence, the Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society presents a special issue on the role of Illinois in the broader American story. Rather than attempting a full state history, this collection of 27 essays provides snapshots of the people, events, challenges, and achievements that have shaped both Illinois and the nation over the past two and a half centuries. Copies of the journal can be purchased from the University of Illinois Press at https://scholarlypublishingcollective.org/uip/jishs/issue/119/1.
The event is cosponsored by the UIC Chapter of the State University Annuitants Association and the Illinois 250 Commission.
