Ruth Goring
Ruth Goring lives in Chicago but grew up in Colombia. She has authored several books for children, two poetry collections, and several scripture study guides. Picturing God (2019) was her author-illustrator debut; Isaiah and the Worry Pack (2021) is illustrated by Pamela Rice; and Adriana’s Angels (2017, published in Spanish simultaneously: Los ángeles de Adriana) has art by Erika Meza. More recently Ruth contributed seven psalm illustrations to The Peace Table (2023), an innovative Bible storybook from MennoMedia and Shine Curriculum.
Her poetry collections are Soap Is Political (2015, poems rooted in Colombia) and Yellow Doors (2003). Individual poems have appeared in journals such as Rhino, Calyx, Iron Horse Literary Review, and Crab Orchard Review, and in anthologies including Martín Espada’s What Saves Us (2019). With distinguished Chicago photographer Michael Bracey, she self-published the bilingual book Caras lindas de Colombia / Beautiful Faces of Colombia, documenting Afro-Colombian communities (2018). Her most popular scripture study guide is Singleness (2002) in InterVarsity Press’s LifeGuide series. Ruth also occasionally works on translations. No Return Address by Aurora Posada De Gregorio is a memoir of exile, published in fall 2023 to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the military coup in Chile.
