Joseph Gustaitis
Chicago-based author and editor Joseph Gustaitis is the author of three books on the history of the Windy City: Chicago’s Greatest Year, 1893: The White City and the Birth of a Modern Metropolis, Chicago Transformed: World War I and the Windy City (winner of the Russell P. Strange Memorial Book of the Year Award from the Illinois State Historical Association), and Chicago in 50 Objects. He is also the author of many popular history magazine articles. He received his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and his master’s degree and Ph.D. from Columbia University. After working as an editor for Collier’s Year Book, he became the humanities editor for Collier’s Encyclopedia. He has also worked in television and won an Emmy Award for writing for ABC-TV’s FYI program.
