Carol Madden Adorjan

Carol Madden Adorjan, lifetime Chicago area resident and member of The Society of Midland Authors, The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Children’s Reading Roundtable, and The Dramatists Guild, is the author of short fiction, drama, and children’s books.

Since the publication of her first short story in l956, her articles, features, and short fiction have appeared in a variety of newspapers, trade, religious, national and literary magazines, here and abroad, including North American Review, Denver Quarterly, Redbook, Woman’s Day.

Twenty of her children’s books have been published.

Her first radio play won the l972 EARPLAY competition (University of Wisconsin). Subsequently, her radio plays have been produced by, among others, the BBC and The National Radio Theatre, whose production of her adaptation of The Sea Wolf won the l981 Ohio State Award.

Her stage plays have been produced in San Francisco, New York, etc. and given readings in New York, Chciago, and Milwaukee. She was among the first playwrights given fellowships to the Midwest Playwrights’ Lab under the direction of Dale Wasserman. Her play Bridges, won first prize in a University of Florida, Jacksonville, Competition, and was chosen as one of four for reading and development by The Drame League of New York.

She has been writer in residence for both the Illinois and Iowa Arts Councils and for The National Radio Theater. Currently, she is on the adjunct faculty of National-Louis University, Evanston, IL.
